I don’t think I am alone in my lack of reading in adult-hood. Save for parenting books, marriage books, and a book-club I kept up with here and and there, my reading has been lack-luster since having children. Towards the end of last year, I started to find space, time, and energy to really enjoy books again (partially, because my kiddos are enjoying books too! We read through the Chronicals of Narnia, and the first two Harry Potter books in less than two months!). Every couple of months I’ll be sharing my rereading list with you, and hopefully more book reviews too! Right now my books I’m aching to crack open are all ones that really reflect my current love of health, empowerment, and growth. Hopefully you find a couple on this list that sound interesting to you too!
In October I read You Are a Badass (check out my review here) and it was life changing. And set a lot into action that I didn’t realize I was truly capable of. In December I read Big Magic (review coming!), it was different but some of the same messages pushed through and altered my path in positive ways.
This month, I want to keep the ball rolling. Here are the books on my list. Have you read these? What did you think? And… gimme some more recommendations! I would love to stretch this list out even further!
I can’t even tell you how many times Love Warrior has been recommended to me. And yet, it took till today for me to read what it’s actually about… I know. I was imaging something like Brene Brown’s, Daring Greatly (a favorite of mine). But it isn’t! It’s a memoire, with an empowering tone to work though rock bottom and find abundance and warrior self love. UH WHAT. This is at the top of my list.
This book is a different kind of interesting to me. I’ve heard of Eckhart Tolle many, many times. And the book The Power of Now has an almost cult like following. I’m torn on it… and all “enlightenment” books. I’m really drawn to them, and then my realist/cynical side shuts it down quick. However, hearing about his take on fear and thinking, and our addicted relationship to both really hits me where it’s at. I want to try reading this, the tip-top of woo-woo, with an open mind to change. It’s got my curiosity piqued and some of my favorite Instagrammers and Podcasters love it, so? Worth a read.
I read this book about a 7, and I remember it being a really big impact on me and my marriage. But it’s come up again and again, and I think it’s time for a big refresh. The Four Agreements is a straightforward approach to helping your self-limiting believes and self relationship fall away, and I found all the agreements to be paramount to a healthy marriage and friend relationships too. I’m excited to get through it again, and see how differently it effects me now as a Mother and now that I’m a bit older.
Keep your eyes out for a review of Big Magic in the next couple weeks! And, I would love to know what is on your reading list for this year! I’m always looking to grow my list.
