What Would Change if you Accepted You?

In the abundant30 group this week we talked a bit about this topic. What would life look like, how would you act, if you stopped waiting to be someone else. If you accepted yourself,  as you are today, how would your life change?

This can be Big Stuff: Jobs you’d apply for, relationships you’d leave, people you would cut out of your life.

Or Small Stuff: clothes you’d wear or buy, meals you’d make, money you would save or spend, appointments you’d make.

I adopted that mindset this week a bit, I made appointments and phone calls I’ve been putting off, I sent out pitches and emails that I’ve sat on for ages out of fear (and got great responses! of course!), I made boundaries with friends and “friends” that needed to be made, and I wore outfits that I felt like “oh, I shouldn’t wear that till I’m thinner.” and I generally, just WENT instead of WAIT.

Obviously, that won’t always be the best choice. But taking some time to Reality Check myself on some weird thoughts that have kept me from progress really cleared some brain space up to remember that who I am right now is worth it. Worth the outfit I love, worth making the appointment (massage, acupuncture, doctor, dentist), and that my interests are worth investing in. Often I get caught up in waiting till I’m ‘more successful’,  ‘thinner’ or ‘it’s easier’ and the hard reality is that those qualifiers might leave me waiting forever. Instead, slowing my brain down, and saying “what would I do today if I fully accepted myself.” really helped me to make some big leaps forward.

Writing Prompt

Here is the prompt I shared in the group, if it resonates for you, it’s worth a journal page to open up in your heart what maybe you’ve filed away for “later” but might be very ready for Now.

If you fully accepted you, as you are today, what would life look like? I’ve had times in my life where this hits right in the feels (right now), and times in my life where it means little to me.

Goals are wonderful, and important. Things to focus on are paramount to growth. But for today, or even just a dreamy moment, how would life be a bit different if you were OK with you, as you are right now.

How would it effect how you hold yourself, what you say, what activities you jump into, what clothes you wear, what job would you do, what adventures you sign up for, what you do with free time? Are there things you are “waiting till I’m _____” (more educated, have more time, weigh less, look different, can do X, have stopped doing X, ect.).

After you think on that a bit, think of a way you can embrace that way of thinking in your life now.
